Helping individuals communicate, participate, contribute, and belong.
Meet Lydia
Founder & Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist

My work is grounded in a simple belief:
Every person deserves to be heard, understood, and presumed competent.
Over the past twenty years, I have had the privilege of supporting individuals with diverse communication and developmental needs through clinical practice, community programs, volunteer leadership, parent education, and professional training. These experiences have taught me that communication is about far more than speech.
Communication influences how we learn, build relationships, advocate for ourselves, participate in our communities, and experience belonging.
This belief continues to guide my work as a Speech-Language Pathologist, educator, consultant, and advocate.
As a Speech-Language Pathologist, I support children, youth, and families with diverse communication needs, including autism, developmental language disorders, literacy challenges, social communication differences, and complex support needs.
I have particular expertise supporting autistic and neurodivergent individuals, including minimally-speaking children and emerging communicators.
My work emphasizes relationship-based support, authentic communication, presumed competence, and meaningful participation.
BEYOND CLINICAL PRACTICE
My understanding of communication, disability, and inclusion has been shaped not only through professional practice, but also through decades of community involvement.
For nearly twenty years, I have been involved in supporting individuals with disabilities and their families through volunteer leadership, mentorship, inclusive recreation programs, community initiatives, and volunteer training.
These experiences reinforced a belief that continues to guide my work:
People thrive when they are given opportunities to communicate, contribute, build relationships, and belong.

WHAT MAKES ARETĒ CENTRE DIFFERENT
-
We are neurodiversity-affirming, not compliance-focused.
-
We value authentic communication and connection over masking or performing normalcy.
-
We focus on meaningful participation rather than simply skill acquisition.
-
We support communication across homes, schools, communities, and relationships.
-
We believe every individual deserves opportunities to learn, contribute, and belong.
-
We view communication as a pathway to participation, connection, and self-determination.
